Everyone knows that they can get unemployment checks through their unemployment offices, but not everyone knows that there is much more to these offices than just an easy paycheck. They are not only there to pay you, but also help you find a job. At times, this means getting that education that you neglected to finish in your younger years.

Not having a diploma was once acceptable in the work force, but that is hardly the situation now. Today, even a college degree does not guarantee you a job. Without a diploma, how can you expect to compete for a decent job? You can start to rectify that situation through your unemployment offices.

Within the Career Development area of your unemployment offices, you will see something that is marked Education and Training. When you are nto working, this should be your new home away from home. You can use this benefit to get your GED and make yourself more attractive to employers.

In order to pass the GED test, you are going to have to be prepared for it. Guess who is going to help you do that? You guessed it, your unemployment offices. There counselors and aids that are there for no other reason than to get you to the point that you can pass this test.

What most people fail to understand is that this office is there to get you back to work. The quicker you do that, the quicker you are not eating up public funds that affect the overall economy of your state. The amount of people that are employed to make sure that there are not unemployed is staggering. If you ask for the help, it is there for you.

Even if you have your GED or high school diploma, you still may find that you are having a problem getting a job. Most businesses have laid off a good bit of their workforce and competition is tough. You are going to be up against more people and that means that you have to be more attractive to an employer in order to get that job.

Things like computer skills, word processor knowledge and spread sheet knowledge can go a long way in helping you get the jump on your competition. The more you know, the less your future employer has to spend to educate you. This means more money that goes to the bottom line and that makes you a better candidate for a job.

As you can now see, there is a lot more to the local unemployment office than just supplemental income until you get another job. You can not only use them to get a job, but also to help educate you to make you more attractive to other employers. Use the office and everything it has to put you in a better position to get a better job.
